Our Radiology Department boasts high-end equipment that allows a variety of testing to be done on site. The package of services includes MRI, CT scans, sonar, and a variety of commonly used x-rays. Included in our radiology offering, special mention is made to the Mammogram equipment which allows the specialist to take a breast biopsy by using three-dimensional location.

The hospital offers multiple surgical disciplines including Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Oncology, General Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Ophthalmology, Ear Nose and Throat Surgery and Gynaecology.

Risk Management

Monitoring and Measuring Proactive Risk Management is an integral part of Kiaat Hospital Quality Assurance Strategy. This is part of the hospital’s objective to provide a safe environment for our patients and to provide high-quality care. Incidents and Complaints monitoring provide the hospital with useful data as part of the hospital’s risk management process. The hospital also monitors Key Performance Indicators, the measure and audit of these findings form a key part of risk management.

Performance Indicators

The hospital measures specific clinical Key Performance Indicators, these are; Mortality review and the key outcome is whether the mortality was expected and unexpected. Key factors considered in the review are; The patient’s age, presenting diagnosis, treatment received, duration of admission, underlying conditions and time of death. These factors will allow for effective trend analysis. Readmission within 30 days from discharge is also an important indicator that is monitored.

Monitoring Readmissions

The key outcome is the determination of whether the readmission relates to the initial admission. Monitoring readmissions assists the hospital in reviewing whether patients are being discharged prematurely, it assists in the monitoring of infections and the effectiveness of aftercare. The factors considered are; the duration between readmission and initial discharge, the reason for readmission, diagnosis on initial admission, treatment received during initial admission and duration of initial admission. The measure of these findings helps the hospital improve the discharge processes and aftercare advice and planning. The hospital also monitors returns to theatre within the same admission.

A Centre of Excellence

The hospital’s entire Maternity section known as the Mother and Child Care Unit is housed in one “Birthing Unit”. The Unit provides a unique clinical yet hotel like birthing experience. Our carefully designed maternity packages ensure that families receive sufficient support before, during and after the birth of their newborn.

The Unit also hosts its own comfortable lounge for the waiting Dads and families to support expectant mothers. With the lovely view over the Lowveld from this Unit and the skills of the Obstetricians, there is no better place for a family to welcome their newborn into this world.

Another centre of excellence at Kiaat Private Hospital is that of our Intensive Care Unit. Our specialised ICU trained staff look after patients in this unit with the aim of producing better clinical outcomes.

Our facilities also include a 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Unit. The unit is managed by an Emergency Doctor and emergency and trauma nursing specialists.
